    There were numerous bills introduced in each side of the state legislature in 2007. We will update and discuss the 2007 legislative session and it’s impacts on the trucking industry in Tennessee.
    We will also discuss the pending elections that will decide who controls the House and the Senate.

    A look at the Nexus requirements of states surrounding Tennessee and other highly traveled areas and the required FIN 48 reporting. We will also discussing recent updates and court cases having an effect on nexus in the surrounding areas.

9:35 - 10:45 a.m. - Chasing Fuel Fraud

    Fuel fraud has always been a problem for trucking companies. The average truckload carrier today buys 20,000 gallons per year per truck. Miles per gallon is one way to identify fuel fraud. How effective is it? Which MPG calculation is correct?
    The session will look at the metrics involved in analyzing fuel expense and explore some of the pitfalls of each. In addition, common fuel theft/fraud possibilities will be discussed.

    Commissioner Nicely will provide attendees with a statewide DOT update and any issues or updates on items that may affect the trucking industry.

12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. - Capital Markets Meltdown: Diagnosis? De-Leveraging Debacle?

    Jerry will provide an overview of how we got into this mess, where we are today and what it’s going to take to get us out.

1:45 - 3:25 p.m - Cutting Taxes Equals Cutting Cost – What Am I Missing

    Are you cutting your federal and state taxes in all of the areas available to you? This update will include the latest on several new federal and state refund areas that make it easier to claim your refunds on a timelier basis. We will also discuss areas being covered in recent IRS audits and State Court cases that might impact your company and/or your clients.

3:30 - 4:30 p.m. - Risk Management in the Employment Arena
R. Eddie Wayland, Attorney/Partner, King & Ballow, Nashville, Tenn.
    Eddie Wayland of King & Ballow will provide and update on significant employment law issues currently facing the trucking industry. Recent laws and cases involving trucking companies will be reviewed and analyzed.
    The presentation and related handout materials will focus on a practical, straight-forward discussion of these crucial issues and what trucking and transportation companies need to avoid employment law risks.
4:30 p.m. - Evaluations/Conference Adjourns

Registration Information

Enroll soon because space is limited. Register by Oct. 19 to pay the discounted registration fee. Registrations must be received seven days prior to the event in order to guarantee a seat and course materials. Allow approximately one week for receipt of confirmation.

Cancellations and Substitutions: Cancellations received by Oct. 26 will be assessed a $30 administrative fee. Cancellations received between Oct. 27 and Nov. 2 will be subject to a cancellation fee of 50 percent of the program fee. No refunds are given on or after the date of the program. A $30 administrative fee will be assessed for all substitutions and transfers. Registrants may substitute another individual up to the day before the conference. TSCPA must be notified in advance to ensure proper CPE credit.

Conference Fee Includes: sessions, conference materials, continental breakfast, lunch and refreshment breaks.

Suggested Dress: business casual.

TSCPA provides you with a Proof of Attendance that serves as your permanent record of participation. The Proof of Attendance, noting the credits earned, will be e-mailed within two weeks of the program.
