The Tennessee Society of CPAs is the official representative of the CPA profession in Tennessee. Some of the many member services offered to enhance the value of your CPA certificate include those listed here.

Award Programs

TSCPA offers a variety of award programs to recognize special achievements of members. These include awards for outstanding educators, public servants, authors, CPAs in industry and government, and discussion leaders, among others.

Insurance

TSCPA offers members an exclusive group insurance program at competitive rates. The portfolio includes:

Legislative and Regulatory Activities

One of TSCPA's most important member services is acting as a "watchdog" on legislative issues. Under the direction of the Legislation Committee, the society staff and outside legal counsel regularly review legislative and regulatory proposals for provisions affecting the accounting profession. When such issues are identified, TSCPA works to shape these proposals to promote the interests of the public and the profession. TSCPA also works closely with the Tennessee State Board of Accountancy to ensure fair administration of the Tennessee Accountancy Act.

Scholarship Programs

The Educational & Memorial Foundation of TSCPA awards scholarships each year to Tennessee college and university students majoring in accounting. The Scholarship Committee's highest honor, the Paul L. Royston Award is granted each year to the top accounting student in Tennessee.

Tennessee's successful CPA exam candidates also regularly qualify for national recognition from the AICPA. The top 100 scorers across the country receive Elijah Watt Sells Awards.

TSCPA Web Site

Chapters

TSCPA's eight chapters provide members with local continuing education programming, as well as networking and leadership opportunities.

Continuing Professional Education

Image Enhancement and Public Relations

The society is committed to enhancement of the CPA profession and making the certificate CPAs hold more valuable. TSCPA takes advantage of and initiates opportunities with the media and with students to promote the CPA image and maintains an active campaign to shape public opinion.

TSCPA helps to enhance the image of CPAs in our state through news releases, weekly columns on personal finance in newspapers statewide and tax season consumer programs across Tennessee on radio and television with CPAs as guest speakers. A section of the TSCPA Web site at www.tscpa.com is devoted entirely to the public and includes information on finding a CPA, starting a business, and planning for taxes, among other topics.

Peer Review

TSCPA administers reviews for Tennessee firms that are members of the AICPA according to AICPA standards. Through an agreement between the Tennessee State Board of Accountancy and TSCPA, all firms enrolled in the program are exempt from the mandatory review program conducted by the Tennessee State Board of Accountancy.

Publications

TSCPA publications offer members the benefit of information. The Tennessee CPA Journal provides technical articles relevant to CPAs as well as new laws and information impacting the profession, while TSCPA Hotwire is an electronic newsletter providing members with current news and announcements. The CPE Guide, a comprehensive listing of all courses and conferences sponsored by TSCPA is sent to all members once a year.

TSCPA Annual Convention and Educational Conference

This yearly three-day event gives members the opportunity to hear current issues and informative speakers, earn CPE credit, and network with other members from around the state.

TSCPA Committees

Committees are responsible for much of the work that TSCPA does on behalf of its members and the accounting profession. It is the various committees that develop, recommend and implement programs which help make TSCPA a viable, valued organization that benefits its members.
